Torquay Athletic v. Newton: At Plainmoor, Torquay, on Saturday, the Athletic Club wiped out their defeat by Newton a few weeks since, winning against the same Club by three tries to nothing. The feat was witnessed by large and enthusiastic crowd spectators. The home team, for whom Chipman, Davies, Williams, Hawkings, and Vanstone did well, had the best of the play throughout. Among the visitors Pictor, Pearse, Donaldson, and Sellicks were conspicuous for good work. Two tries were scored by Davies and one by Kitto. Teams: Torquay Athletic: Harry, back; Williams, Harding, Olver, and Kitto, three-quarter backs; Chipman and Davies, halfbacks; Hawkings, Vanstone, Butland, Doble, H. Brooking, Roberts, Cann, and M. Brooking, forwards. Newton: Pinsent, back; Greenfield, Pearce, Wells, and Pictor, three quarter backs; Donaldson and White, hall backs; Bellicks, O’Neil, Cowley, Hobson, Curtis, Dunn, Burns, and Elliott, forwards.
