Bovey Tracey: Vestry Meeting: On Saturday the adjourned vestry meeting of the parishioners of Bovey Tracey was held in the Town Hall, Mr. J. Pethybridge presiding. There were also present Messrs. G. Bond, H. Pinsent, G. Pain, A. Last, Sparkes, W. W. Wolfendon, H. Baker, J. Joll, W. Man, Crocker, M. Goodridge, G. Beer, J. Beer, Fernew, J Parnell, W. Aggett, J. Pearce, (etc). On the motion of Mr. Baker, seconded by Mr. Crocker, the following were appointed as way-wardens: Messrs. J. Joll, H. Pinsent, and J. Pethybridge. Mr. Joll wished to know whether the present Assistant-Overseer would collect the rates at the same salary. The Assistant- Overseer objected to this. Mr. Pinsent considered that there should be no increase and suggested that Mr. Parnell should take into consideration the downward tendency of wages. Mr. E. Endacott and Mr. Baker were of the same opinion. Mr. Pethybridge thought they should adjourn the meeting until next Saturday to give Mr. Parnell time to consider, and in the meantime inquire what neighbouring parishes were paying. Mr. Joll fell in with this suggestion and proposed a committee to make inquiry. The following were appointed: Mr. J. Pethybridge, Mr. W. Man, Mr. Wolfendon, Mr. H. Pinsent, Mr. E. Endacott, and Mr. Crocker. Mr. Baker said he could not see his way clear to signing the accounts respecting the Town Hall. There was no account of two concerts which had been recently held there. Mr. G. Bond said he was Secretary of the Concert Committee, and they had money in hand, which they intended to use in carrying the gas into the Town Hall, but if they were pressed for the payment of the room, they would pay the usual price and spend the rest in other ways. Mr. W. Aggett proposed that the furniture should not be let. This was seconded by Mr. Baker and carried.
