Newton must have been agreeably surprised at being able to bring off a draw with Torquay Athletic on Saturday. Both teams were very weak, Newton having Jackson, Pinsent, Donkin, Windsor, Greenfield, Templar, and other good men absent for various reasons, while the Athletes were without Oliver, Harding Williams, Davies and one or two forwards, so that as far as absentees went there was not much to choose between the teams.
