Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta – 1900: … Dartmouth wins the Challenge Cup: … It is five years since the Dartmouth Club won this race. The Bideford crews hardly came up to expectations and were never really dangerous. In the final the Queen of the Torridge was quite unable to keep up the tremendous pace set by Dartmouth and Torquay. On crossing the line, the easiest of winners, (Torquay having been beaten off in the last mile) Dartmouth were greeted by a perfect pandemonium of cheers, steam whistles and sirens … …  Dartmouth Challenge Cup, value 100 guineas (presented by the Dartmouth Amateur Rowing Club), with added prizes to the value of £30 (given by the Regatta Committee). From this point Zarifa drew steadily away, and the issue was never in doubt so far as first place was concerned. At the higher marks, Zarifa held a good lead and increased it considerably on the pull down. Queen of the Torridge turned second, just in front of Kelpie, and after getting into the straight again, so completely out rowed the Totnes boat that the latter gave up.
