Neville (“Nev”) Pinsent was the third surviving son of Wilfred Pinsent by his wife Louie Irene (née Bassford). He was born in Leicester and grew up in a “grocery” and “off-license” on Martin Street. On leaving school, he entered the construction business  as a “bricklayer” and later became a “slater and tiler”. Neville married Wife (GRO1476), a “hosiery worker,” in Leicester in 1954. They had five children (four boys and one girl) in the years that followed. The family lived on Martin Street in the 1950s and 1960s. 

One of Neville’s sons, Adam Pinsent, died at the relatively young age of seventeen years. He had had a tough life. When he was two years old he lost one eye to a tumour and very nearly lost the other. His mother took him down to “St. Bartholomew’s hospital” in London to have a smaller growth removed from behind the second eye. It was a drawn-out process and Neville had to give up his job as a day-labourer on a construction site and for-go the £15 per week wage that went with it to look after himself and his other children (Leicester Evening Mail: Saturday 20th July 1960).

Neville’s other sons seem to have grown to adulthood and married and had sons of their own to carry the line forward. Neville Pinsent died in Nottingham in 2009 – four days after his elder brother Bernard Wilfred Pinsent (Leicestershire Mercury: 17th October 2009).  I am not sure what happened to Wife (GRO1476).

Neville was the eldest son of  James Leonard Pinsent by his wife, Irene (née Bradshaw). He was born in Leicester in 1930 and grew on Valance Street with two younger sisters ((GRO0050) and (GRO0484)), and a younger brother (GRO0374). Their father was a “taxi-driver” who became an “undertaker” and moved to Chorley, in Lancashire, in-or-around 1950. 

Neville married in Bury, Lancashire, and the Leicester Chronicle published their wedding photograph on Saturday 14th April 1951.  Neville was an “air mechanic” in the Royal Navy. He may well have been doing his “National Service” – an obligatory eighteen-month stint in the armed forces that was first introduced after the Second World War and lasted into the 1950s.  Neville had two daughters (who are probably still alive); however, their marriage did not last. Neville married again in 1967.  I am not aware of any children from Neville’s second marriage.

Neville lived on the Bolton Road in Anderton (near Chorley) in the 1980s (British Telephone Directories).  What he did for a living, I am not sure. Perhaps he used the technical and mechanical skills he acquired in the Royal Navy. He died in Manchester in 2006.  I am not sure what has happened to his widow.
