Walter Alfred was the first born son of Richard Alfred Pinson by Florrie Osley (née Davis). He was baptized in St. Clement Anglican Church in Marrickville in April 1908. His father was a “butcher” who lived on Myrtle Street in Marrickville and Walter later joined him in the family business. However, not before trying his hand at being a “musician”. The Electoral Rolls show that Walter and his younger brother Richard Joseph were “musicians” living together on Thorne Street, in Wagga Wagga, on the Murrumbidgee River west of Sydney in 1937. How successful they were, I do not know! The “Second World War” interfered with what ever plans they may have had.
Walter married Belgian Ruth (“Rene”) Robinson in 1943. According to the Electoral Rolls, she was a “wrapper” of some sort (not stated) living by herself on “Darling Street”, in Rozelle later that same year. Walter was AWOL – perhaps he was serving in the armed forces and she was back living with her family. However, that is conjecture.
Walter returned to “Myrtle Street” to run his father’s butcher’s business after he died in 1944 and his widow and her two sons and daughters’ in law submitted a joint memorial notice to the “Sydney Morning Herald” on Wednesday 15th August the following year. Interestingly, it refers to the daughters in law nicknames, “Rene” and “Belle”.
Walter’s younger brother Richard Joseph was abroad serving with the “A.I.F.” (“Australian Imperial Force”) when his father died. Walter was still working as a “butcher” and living with his mother in 1946, 1949 and 1954. There is nothing in the Electoral Rolls to suggest that his wife and family were with him. However, the family were re-united by 1958. By then, Walter and Belgian had had at least two sons. The family then lived on “Sydenham Road” in Marrickville. Walter was an independent “butcher” by then and Belgian a “telephonist.”
The couple lived on “Sydenham Road” throughout the 1960s and they were still there in 1972. Their sons had come of age by 1977. The Electoral Roll shows that they were then “students” living at home with their parents. Belgian Ruth Pinson died in September 1977 (Sydney Morning Herald: September 10th 1977). Walter and his sons stayed on at the same address and they were “clerks” living at home in 1980. Walter died in 1998, aged 90 years (Daily Telegraph: Sydney: 16th May 1998).

William James Pinson “junior” was the eldest son of William James Pinson “senior” by his wife, Eva May (née Barrett). He grew up on “Heath Street” in Concord with at least two brothers and (probably) a sister. His father was a third-generation “butcher” but he never took to the trade. He opted to become a “clerk.” According to Cindy Kay (MyHeritage.com) William James “junior” married Hazel Slocombe in Burrowa (now Boorowa) in the Hilltops Region of New South Wales in 1937. They had at least one son and two daughters in the years that followed. They grew up to marry; however, one of the daughters, Barbara, died relatively young. The others may still be alive today.
William James and Hazel lived on “Stamford Street” in Cabarita in New South Wales in 1943. He was a “labourer” in those day, although of what sort I do not know. They were there in 1963, but had moved into an apartment on “Brighton Avenue” in the Lang subdivision of Harcourt by 1972. By then, William was a “clerk”. Hazel died in 1974 and William went to live with his son on “Cecilia” Street”, in Belmore North, in Grayndler by 1977. He was still living with them in 1980. He died in 1988.
William James’s son appears to have married in the mid 1950s and had at least two sons. His marriage may not have lasted though, as William James and his son seem to have been living together in 1977. However, his son may have remarried, although I do not know when. The Electoral Rolls show that William James’s two grandsons had come of age and that the family was still living in Belmore in 1980.
William James Pinson “late of Seven Hills and McMasters Beach, formerly of Cabarita, Penshurst and Campsie” died in June 1988. He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel and by his daughter Barbara (Sydney Morning Herald: Thursday 23rd June 1988). According to Cindy Kay (above), Hazel died in Sydney on 28th December 1974.
