It is a square structure, with projecting balconies and was built in 1862. It was probably erected as a viewpoint, for it commands an extensive panorama. Near Curry Rivel, tall column can be seen from the Taunton Road. It is the Parkfield Monument, erected in 1768 by the Earl of Chatham, in memory of Sir William Pynsent from whom he derived, by bequest, the neighbouring estate of Burton. Traveller, Somerset.
