Her Majesty’s Jubilee: Adjourned Meeting: On Thursday evening a large and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Alexandra Hall, for the purpose of taking steps to celebrate Her Majesty’s Jubilee in this town. Mr. W. J. Watts, J.P., presided, and there were also present on the platform … in the body of the hall were also present … (list includes) … J. Pinsent …  (discussion of options, including either a library or a public bath) … The Committee are informed that a building for swimming and washing baths would cost about £1,500. This would be exclusive of the washhouse, or the purchase or rent of the ground. The annual cost and expenditure is estimated at about £100. A site suggested in Kingsteington road, the property of Mr. J. B. Pinsent, is found to be unobtainable. Another site adjoining the Bark Mill, and near the Kingsteington road could possibly be obtained at a rental of £25 per annum.
