The proposed Restoration of Bovey Tracey Parish Church: Animated Vestry Proceedings: The Meeting Adjourned: A meeting of parishioners was called at the Vestry Hall on Saturday for the purpose of considering the plans for restoring the chancel of the Parish Church. … (description of plan which would involve a change of seating) … … The meeting, one of the largest known in the parish for many years, was presided over by the Vicar, and amongst others present were … (list includes) … H. Pinsent and G. Pinsent … (heated discussion) … Mr. Bastow said he very much feared that the parish had travelled from real Protestantism to Popery since the present vicar had been in charge (hear, hear!). Mr. H. Pinsent called attention to the fact that he had been asked to attend the vote against the proposition by the gentleman who had that day brought forward the resolution (laughter). The Chairman said Mr. Sparkes had met with that conversion which he hoped would come upon them all (laughter) … It is probably that should the decision of the meeting go against the Vicar a poll will be demanded.
