Chudleigh: … … There was a fairly good attendance at the Parish meeting, Col. Walcott being voted to the chair. There were 19 nominations for the 13 seats, and the results of the voting was as follows … (list) … Of the unsuccessful candidates Messrs. Ellis, Symis and Hellier were old members. A poll was demanded by Messrs. Widdicombe, Compodonico, Symis, Crook and Phillips. The Chairman, as treasurer of Pinsent’s Grammar School, presented the accounts which showed that with a balance in hand at the beginning of the year of £32, the income had been £101, and the expenditure, £83, leaving a balance in hand of £17. These were adopted, as also were the accounts of the Charity Governors, showing an income, including the balance of £51, of £185, and the expenditure of £130, leaving £55 in hand. …
