Public Meeting at Newton Abbot: A public meeting of the inhabitants of Newton Abbot was held at the Town Hall last evening to consider the question of accepting the invitation sent to the Devon County Agricultural Association to hold their meeting at Newton in 1898, and to appoint a committee to carry out the necessary arrangements. Mr. Lewis Bearne, Chairman of the Urban Council was voted to the chair. Those present included … (list) … W. S. Pinsent (Chairman of the Highweek Parish council) … (16th, 17th and 18th May, and site near Ashburton had been selected; there was some question as to where the Royal Society would hold its meeting that year, It was scheduled for Maidstone but because of sickness, it could be Exeter) … Mr. R.
