Invitation from Newton Abbot for 1898: A meeting of the inhabitants of Newton Abbot was held in the Town Hall on Friday to consider the advisability of inviting the Devon County Agricultural Association to hold its Exhibition for 1898 at Newton. Mr. Lewis Bearne (Chairman of the Urban District Council) presided over a small attendance and moved that the Association be invited to hold its annual show at Newton next year. Mr. W. S. Pinsent (Chairman of Highweek Parish Council) seconded, and the motion was carried. A Committee, consisting of Messrs. L. Bearne, W. S. Pinsent, W. Vicary and A. S. Rendell was elected to send the invitation. Mr. G. D. Woollcombe was appointed Hon. Secretary, pro-tem.
