Sherfield: entertainment at Melcrest Court: A very successful and enjoyable entertainment was given at Melcrest Court on Tuesday evening, the object being to establish a prize fund for the scholars attending the evening school. The original intention of the promoters was to give the entertainment in the schoolroom, but by the kindness of Lady Ashburton the great hall at Melcrest Court was used for the occasion … … the programme consisting chiefly of vocal items, was began about 7.30, and was well carried out. Among the items which deserve special notice, were the songs of Miss M. Brown and Miss Pinsent. The renderings of “Bid me discourse” by the former, and of “Dan’l Darling” by the latter were extremely sweet and accurate.
