Hockey at Totnes: A match was played on the ice of Blight’s Marsh at Totnes yesterday afternoon between teams representing Newton and Totnes. The visitors were captained Mr. C. B. Kay, while Mr. C, Barran superintended the home team. On the whole the game was fairly even, and the result — a win for Newton by five goals to one — does not represent the character of the contest, as Totnes were rather unlucky on a few occasions in not scoring. The Newtonians played with more combinations than Totnes and this accounts for their win. The scorers for Newton ware Messrs. Kay (2), Kirby (2), and Pearse (1), while W. Holmes scored the Totnes goal. For Newton, besides the scorers, Messrs Webb and Pinsent were conspicuous for good play, while Messrs. P. Holmes, Pinkerton, and Jellicoe played well for Totnes. Mr. E.
