Torquay Athletic v. Newton Abbot: At Newton: Torquay had the assistance of Board (Torquay Town). Pictor was absent from Newton, Wills, taking his place in the three-quarters, and Donaldson Wills his place at half-back. All the Newton team played well, especially Wells, Donaldson, Dunn and Pinsent, Olver and Williams played well for Torquay … The visitors just after were allowed another free kick in Newton twenty-five, Pinsent saved. Wells ran between his opponents … Olver (Torquay) obtained at fifty and looked like scoring, but Pinsent legged him in fine style. … Olver got away, but Pinsent collared him. Donaldson relieved by a neat run to Torquay twenty-five, but Williams just after got away and was collared by Pinsent … Torquay then rushed with a good dribble, but Pinsent relieved with a strong kick. Wells obtained and ran close to the line when he was collared. Pinsent kicked a dead ball. Newton thus won by 11 points to nil.
