Teignmouth Post and Gazette: Friday 16th November 1894

SHEEP DROWNED AT KINGSTEIGNTON: At Kingsteignton on Monday, volumes of water from Haldon hills flooded the lower part of the village. The road at Oakford, and thence to the old Tollbar on the Newton road was flooded, the water being two feet deep, and running into the houses both at Oakford and in the Pottery Cottage. The River Teign was out in all the marshes. Although the water around Newton has subsided somewhat, there is still a considerable quantity in the fields, especially near Forde House, where a tributary of the Teign has overflowed its banks, flooding the adjoining fields and neighbourhood. Mr. Mark Knowles, cattle dealer, has lost by drowning thirty out of thirty-five sheep which were in Pinsent’s Marsh, on the Kingsteignton road.
