TRIAL MATCH AT EXETER: North v. South: This match took place on the County Ground yesterday. The weather was fine, but rather too hot for football. The teams were North: Britten (Tiverton), back; Jarrad (Barnstaple), Salter (Exmouth), Bates (Oaks), and Wright (Exmouth), three-quarter backs; Buckle (Barnstaple) and Newberry (Exeter), half backs; Halifax (Tiverton), Pearce (Barnstaple), Bray (Tiverton), May (Exeter), Vicary (Barnstaple), Manning (Tiverton), Underhill (Oaks), and Powell (Oaks), forwards. South: Pinsent (Newton), back; Pearce (Newton), Green (Torquay Town), Cross (Totnes) and G. Mudge (Paignton), three-quarterbacks; Endacott (Paignton) and Symons (Torquay Town), half-backs, T E Harris (Totnes), Harris (Paignton), Ryder (Torquay Town), Ellis (Dartmouth), Doble (Torquav Athletic), Burns (Newton), Cox (Newton Blues), and F. White (Paignton), forwards. Soon after the commencement of the game, Wright received a pass from Salter and scored for North, but Bates failed to majorise. South afterwards pressed, but Wright intercepted a pass, and crossed the line. Salter converted. Green made try for the South, but the point was not improved upon. In the second half Green received a pass, and after a capital run scored a second try for South, but it was not converted. Bates afterwards passed to Salter, who put a good run and scored, but he failed at goal. The game ended win for North, the score being — North, one goal and two tries; South, two tries.
