Thanet Advertiser: Saturday 3rd March 1894

Congregational Institute: A miscellaneous entertainment with readings by Dr. Hawkes was given in connection with the Congregational Institute at St. George’s Hall, on Tuesday evening. The programme was well selected, a fact evidently recognised by the audience. The evening was opened with a well-rendered pianoforte solo by Miss Wilson, who also contributed “Fantasia on Irish Aire.”. A reading by Br. Hawkes entitled “The Ballad of Bean Brocade” came next, being followed by the song “Dear Homeland” by Miss Pinsent, who, in addition, gave with good effect, “By the Fountain.” (Possibly Pinson)
