Football: Mr. Knight’s XV v Newton College: A most interesting match took place between the above teams on the College ground yesterday afternoon, resulting in a win for Mr. Knight’s XV by four goals and three tries to two goals and two tries. The “boys” had the best of the first half’s play, but the senior team made things warm for them in the latter part of the game, and gave them scarcely a chance of increasing their score. For the College, Butland got in twice, O’Neill once and Windsor drop-kicked a goal, while for the winners Lias obtained two tries, Mapleton, Sellicks, Knight, and Hudson one each, and Ashford dropped a goal: Teams: Mr. Knight’s XV. Hayward, back; Knight, Ashford, and Mapleton, three-quarter backs; Lias and Ball, half backs; Hudson, Williams, Bennett, Sellicks, Alsop, Francis, Wilson, H. Tozer, and King, forwards: Newton College: Pinsent, back; Wallen, Templer and Windsor, three-quarter backs; Hammond and Light half backs; O’Neill, Currie, Stork, Villiers-Stuart, Owen-Jones, M. Everett, Lovett, Butland and B. Everett, forwards. Umpires: Messrs. A. Hewitson and R. Johnson. Referee: Rev. W. T. Kerry.
