A concert was given in the Smethurst Schoolroom, Greenhill, on Thursday evening: The proceeds of which are to be applied to liquidating the debt due on the old sentry seats. The following was the programme, which was very much appreciated throughout, particularly however, the instrumental music of Mr. And Mrs. Acland and the comic songs of Mr. Pearson which were heartily applauded: Piano and clarinet, “Scotch airs,” Mr. and Mrs. Acland; glee, “Let the hill’s resound”; song, “The little hero,” Mr. Pile; duet, “Two merry hearts,” Mrs. Webber and Mrs. Pollard; song, “The pilgrim of love,” Mr. Joll, pianoforte solo, “Les Courriers,” Mrs. Acland; song, Miss Pinsent; Song; “Our little Craft,” Mr. Hellier; duet, Miss Pinsent and Mr. Joll; piano and Violin, “Selections”, … etc.
