Notes of the Week: … Sir Alexander Rendel, the Consulting Engineer to the Secretary of State for India, who is at present inspecting the various Railway lines in India, etc., arrived in Madras on Sunday from Calcutta by the P. O. S. S. Peshawar. On Monday Sir Alexander, accompanied by Messrs. Pogson and Pinsent, inspected the whole of the Harbor Works, Workshops, etc., including also the northern and southern groynes over which the party were trollied. The general result of Sir Alexander’s close inspection of the Madras Harbour Works is understood to be that he approves of what has been done so far, and acquiesces in the proposal for an eastern, instead of a northern eastern entrance. …  …
