Football: Newton College v. Torquay Athletic: These teams met on the College ground, yesterday, in fine but cold weather. Both sides were suffering from the prevailing epidemic and in addition Torquay played one short up to half-time when Hawking had to leave as he had injured his shoulder. Drury also retired later on, but in spite of those misfortunes the Athletic had the best of the game, winning by one goal six tries to nil. The tries were obtained by Searle (2), Drury, Hawking, Hill, Gorwyn and Madge, and Davies kicked the goal. The teams were: Newton College: Pinsent (back), Wollen, St. Wake and Windsor (three-quarters), Hammond and Davies (half backs), O’Neill, Robinson, Monckton, Patch Curry, Everett, Lovett, Butland and Brown (forwards), Torquay, Davey (back), Drury, Searle, Falvus and Hutchings (three-quarters), Davies and W. Hill (half-backs), Hawking, Brooding, Prat, Sanders, Mudge, Gorwyn, and Tooley (forwards): Umpires, Messrs. Berry and Gardiner, Referee, Mr. Symthe.
