Newton Urban Council: The monthly meeting of this Council was held yesterday under the chairmanship of Mr. W. Vicary (chairman). Mr. Parker complained because his objection at the previous meeting to the Chairman voting on the question of the Electric Company’s contract because he was a shareholder of the Gas Company was omitted from the minutes … (other business) … The amended agreement was produced with reference to the purchase of Mrs. Cox’s property for the purpose of improving the street adjoining the site of the proposed Free Library and Technical Schools. A letter was also received on behalf of Mrs. Michelmore offering to accept £900 for the property without guaranteeing that possession could be given at Christmas. The Building Sub-Committee recommended that the Council not to accept the offer, and that consequently, Mr. Pinsent’s offer of the 20th October be also not accepted: Adopted.
