Western Times: Monday 26th March 1900

Rugby: Totnes v Albion Reserves: At Totnes in fine weather: Albion R. – 1 goal, 1 try: Totnes – Nil: The homesters, playing against the hill, were the first to attack, but the visitors rushed out to the centre. Some good work by Bassett enabled Albion to force the game, but Pinsent cleared, and Knott and Searle carried on the play to mid-field, where Marshall was rushed to touch. Totnes stoutly defended but conceded a minor from a drop at goal by Bassett: Albion attacked again, but Totnes soon reversed the arrangements and kept the visitors busy to the interval. After some even play at the centre Chard opened the second half for the visitors with a penalty goal, and just after, following up a penalty, Totnes were going strongly when they were checked through Butchers being knocked out. Albion were relieved, but Totnes again gave them trouble. Shannon with a big kick gave the Albionites a chance; Pincent finding touch close to his own line. A visitor got over, but the point was disallowed, and Totnes defended well. Marley cleared to the centre, but the visitors came back with a rush which ended in Marshall getting over, but Chard failed to goal from a corner kick and the game ended. The result is very creditable to the losers who played smartly against team with unbroken season’s record.
