Biggleswade Chronicle: Friday 13th June 1919

Cricket: Notes and Comments: There are mostly plenty of runs secured in matches at the Three Counties Asylum and the match with Biggleswade proved no exception to the rule for less than 454 were scored for the loss of only 14 wickets. The Asylum won the match and decisively, too, for the visitors took first knock and made 188, the home team through the medium Buckley and Goddard hit off the runs without loss. Major Pinsent eventually divided the pair, but Goddard stayed on to make 156, and at the close of the game the Asylum record was 266 for 4 wickets. H. B. Goddard in his big total hit 32 fours, and Buckley hit a 5 and 10 4’s. Bowling honours on the visiting side went to Major Pinsent, R.E. who secured three victims at a cost of 37 run. Lieut. Luxton secured 1 for 36 while Green, Haynes, Saunders, and R. H. King all bowled without meeting with success. Biggleswade’s opening at the wicket was not great for Woodward was caught without scoring. Major Pinsent made some excellent shots, but his innings was brief, and Jack King only got a four before Tommy Saunders again got among the timber. … … [Biggleswade: … Major Pinsent b.
