Slindon: … On Sunday, after the evening service, the Choral Society beautifully rendered the first part of Handels “Messiah.” The Rev. A. lzard took the first solo. “Every valley shall be exalted”; Miss Mary lzard sang very sweetly “There were Shepherds”; Miss Pinsent was another soloist. The chorus included four basses and five tenors of choir assisted by 14 altos and sopranos. Miss Constance Izard and Miss Mary Izard played violin accompaniments, and Miss Jane Izard was at the organ. There was a large congregation. Knight’s setting of the “Magnificat” was used, and there were special chants for the Psalms.
