Birmingham University: At the annual meeting of the Court of Governors of the University of Birmingham, on Monday, Professor Gilbert Barling was elected Vice-Chancellor, in the room of the late Alderman Beale to whose work a graceful tribute was paid by many of the Governors present. The new Vice-Chancellor dwelt at some length on the financial position of the University as affected by the Exchequer and municipal grants; and Sir Oliver Lodge and Mr. Hume Pinsent also spoke of the work and needs of the Institution.
