The Surrey Boy Scouts’ Association … … The most interesting moment, however, was when the County Commissioner called for Scout H. Pincent, of Ditton’s Troop to whom the Silver Cross was presented for saving a boy from drowning in the river Thames on August 21st, 1921. “It was only by accident that the lad was identified as he went away after the rescue without making any mention of his action” the lad was overwhelmed when the decoration was fastened to his shirt, and he seemed desperately anxious to get away from so much publicity. Four of his comrades, however, were close behind him with the wheel of a trek cart upon which they hoisted him and bore him around the enclosure while the 2,000 Scouts and all the visitors acclaimed him …
