Express and Echo: Saturday 1st July 1939

Maynard School Parents’ Weekend: The Maynard School, Exeter, began its annual parents’ week end last night, when the headmistress (Miss Ryan) and staff were home parents and friends. Coffee was followed by the school dramatic society’s excellent presentation of a burlesque. “The Tragedy of Tragedies,” by Henry Fielding. Those taking part were P. Newman. C. Hodges, A. McCririck, J. Pinsent, P. Laskey. M. Whitear, M. Veale, M. Rayner, C. Hayter and P. Pedlar. Miss P. Chalk responsible for the production. Afterwards visitors were able to inspect a series of experiments carried out by the girls in the school’s up-to-date laboratories. Parents’ weekend concludes this afternoon with the annual school sports.
