This website is the result of a multigenerational study of the Pinsent family and its history.
Because names are often reused, each individual is assigned a unique number―a PinsentID. This number is referenced every time that individual is mentioned on the site, including in their personal entry.
The history of the Pinsent study and the development of the PinsentID (what we internally call a GROID―it’s a long story) is described in How to Use this Website.
The site describes eight branches of the family. Each branch has its own landing page with the following information:
- A summary of the branch’s history
- A link to a longer, more in-depth summary of the branch’s history
- “Notable Members of the Branch” e.g., anyone with their own biography
- “All Members of the Branch” e.g., any person in the branch including those without biographies.
Every family branch also has a Category associated with it. These are available on the sidebar to the right of the page.
Clicking the category for “Australia,” for example, will show you every entry for the Australia branch in no particular order.
Who gets a biography?
Biographies are available for anyone where there’s sufficient source material to allow for it.
Unfortunately, there are few primary sources documenting the lives of women in the Pinsent family. There are exceptions, of course, and those exceptions have full biographies of their own. In most cases, what we know is limited.
Men without biographies often died young or came from branches with little documentation.
For those without biographies, the snippets of information we do have are written into the biographies of husbands, fathers, and other family members. People whose information is available elsewhere are marked with a
symbol on their Family Branch page.
Who isn’t on this website?
Generally, there are two kinds of people not available on this website: the living, and those born after 1925 for whom we don’t have a date of death. There are a couple of exceptions for reasons of celebrity, but otherwise we have removed direct mention of anyone we believe to be alive.
If we have made a mistake and a living person is listed somewhere, don’t hesitate to contact us. We will immediately take it down.
There is information on this site I don’t want public.
Our family biographies were prepared using publicly available source material, but we are happy to accommodate anyone who has concerns. If there is information you don’t want shared, let us know.
