Hampshire Assizes: Summer Session Opens at Winchester: The Summer Assizes for the County opened Winchester Castle on Monday, when there was a list of 31 prisoners for trial, a divorce list of some 70 pleas, and substantial civil cause list. Mr. Justice Charles. C.8.E. sat in the Crown Court, accompanied by the High Sheriff Capt. G. J. R. Cooper, the Sheriff’s Chaplain, the Rev. S. T. Percival, and the Under Sheriff. Mr. Reginald J. Harris. Before the opening of the Assize the Mayor of Winchester (Councillor Major R. Pinsent), accompanied members of the Council, and the Town Clerk, escorted the Head Constable and Police escort, waited on their Lordships at the Judges’ lodgings in the Close, and the Cathedral bells rang out in salute.
