Winchester’s Mayor: Major J. R. Pinsent: Winchester’s mayor-making was carried out in a crowded Chamber with the usual ceremonial. Major J. R. Pinsent, D.S.O., was unanimously elected and the retiring mayor, who also retired from the Council, Councillor A. T. Edmonds was presented with a past-mayor’s badge and thanked. The mayor appointed senior Alderman H. D. Johnson the Deputy Mayor and chose the Chairmanship of the Education Committee as his principal Committee. The customary dinner to the ex-Mayor took place in the evening.
