Dangerous Driving: Mr. Arthur Glanville, of Portsmouth, represented John Douglas Pinsent, of 37, Auckland Road East, Southsea, who was summoned for driving his car dangerously at Horndean, on September 21. Arthur Frederick Masters, a decorator, of 7, St. Alban’s Road, Southsea, said that on September 21 he was riding a bicycle from Havant to Horndean, accompanied by his young lady on another bicycle. They passed between the Horndean War Memorial and the Red Lion and had gone about 30 yards round the corner in the direction of Portsmouth, when the defendant’s car, which was proceeding in the same direction, passed them, the rear near mudguard catching the handlebars of the witness’s machine. Both he and the young lady were thrown from their machines. — Miss Doris Clark, a corset maker, of 11, Ceveland Road, Southsea, corroborated. — Archibald Hobbs, a grocer, of London Road, Horndean who saw the accident, said that the defendant had plenty of room to pass the two cycles. — Mr. Glanville contended that Masters wobbled as the rear of the car was passing him. —The Bench found the case proved, and a fine of £2 with £2 2s 6d costs was imposed.
